The first few months of University can be a real struggle for students, learning how to plan your own time, adjusting to study can be a huge challenge, when you combine that with living in a new country and often living on your own for the first time, it’s no wonder that students struggle or give up. This is why a lot of students choose pathways through Vocational Education to help them in a better transition for adjustment.
At Perth College of Business and Technology, we understand the struggles that international students face as many of us have been international students before. Here are five reasons why we recommend PCBT’s Business Bundle as the right pathway for your educational success.
The Certificate IV in Business provides some of the basics that students will need entering in the business world like presentation skills, intro to marketing and customer service. Our trainer works closely with our students to help mentor and support them in the first few months of training, providing them with support on how to schedule their time and giving students the extra assistance they need as they learn to adjust to a new life balancing study and work in a new country.
Our staff come from nearly a dozen different nationalities including South African, American, Australian, Chinese, Pakistani, Iranian, Turkish, Mauritian, English, Malaysian, Irish, Italian, Indian and more and most of us have studied previously as international students here in Australia and abroad. There can be huge challenges for students when they first enter Australia, having staff that share an understanding and have an appreciation for that experience means that we can provide advice, support, and understanding of what our students are going through and point them in the direction of the best help when it is needed. This could just mean a friendly ear, career counselling, CV support and more.
Our pathway leads students through business basics in the Cert IV, builds with introductory management principals in the Diploma of Business or Leadership & Management and then leads into high-level finance, risk assessment, business, strategy and customer service planning in the Advanced Diploma. When students start with the Cert IV, they can focus on easy skills development, short answer questions, short essays, as they progress through the Diploma they will be challenged to move more into longer essays, project work, and presentations. In the culmination with the Advanced Diploma students work to University level with in-depth essays, advanced projects and group work and high-level finance. Through the graduated approach students are able to build their academic capabilities so that when they enter higher education, they are ready to meet and exceed the Uni expectations.
A lot of colleges can treat students as if they are another paycheck or a child to be taken care of. The truth is that the relationship between international students and colleges is complex, we have the responsibility not only to provide you with training to prepare you for a specific role in the industry, but also the responsibility of helping to support you in the transition to your new life in Australia. It can be a complicated relationship at times but one that is incredibly rewarding. PCBT has worked hard over the last year to be known as the college that cares with all staff, led by the Principal, taking the time to get to know our students by name and understand their own personal stories to help weave a diverse and beautiful campus culture. There aren’t many colleges where you can sit and have a personal chat with the principal but PCBT prides ourselves on a supportive student experience!
This week our Cert IV students spent the afternoon touring and speaking managers at Our World Travel about the importance of customer service while our Advanced Diploma students started a new phase in their studies, by competing against each other in MIT Sloan School of Business simulators. PCBT is one of the few Australian education providers with access to these cutting-edge business simulators, created at the world-famous Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the USA. These innovative and interactive games create a virtual world in which students explore and participate in the critical management issues facing a range of industries and organizations. All our courses are developed in consultation with industry and we weave as much hands-on industry experience through each of the qualifications as possible with incursions, excursions and utilising the latest technology, our amazing trainers ensure that students receive hands-on real world experiences.
Overall, the PCBT difference is passion, passion for our students, shared understanding and a drive to do everything better. If you want to be part of the PCBT difference, enquire about our Cert IV in Business and business packages today.
We look forward to seeing you here in Perth!
