Pursue your dream of becoming a qualified bricklayer. The Certificate III in Bricklaying equips students with the practical skills, industry knowledge, and hands-on experience needed to build a successful career in the construction industry.
This qualification reflects the trade qualified role of a bricklayer, blocklayer or paver who may have responsibility for undertaking heritage bricklaying, refractory bricklaying, bricklaying, blocklaying and paving work in residential, industrial and commercial contexts, in both existing and new constructions.
Occupational titles could include:
- Bricklayer
- Blocklayer
- Paver.
The bricklaying, blocklaying and paving industry strongly affirms that training and assessment leading to recognition of skills must be undertaken in a real or closely simulated workplace environment and this qualification requires all units of competency to be delivered and assessed in this context.
Licensing, legislative, regulatory and certification requirements vary between states. Relevant state and territory regulatory authorities should be consulted to confirm those requirements.
Completion of the general construction induction training program, specified in the Safe Work Australia model Code of Practice: Construction Work, is required by anyone carrying out construction work. Achievement of CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry meets this requirement.

Study and Assessment mode
This course is delivered for 104 weeks (FACE TO FACE) in a combination of theory and practical sessions. All practical sessions are conducted in a fully equipped trade training centre where students will have access to all relevant equipment and a chance to practice all the techniques as required by the training package. From term 3, students will also participate in 400 hours of workplace experience to ensure that skills are demonstrated in an industry context to industry standard; PCBT assessors will visit student worksites to observe skills in action. PCBT supports students with industry placements for its students to enhance skills and further employment opportunities, however, students are expected to work with PCBT to organise their placements. Assessment is competency based and is generally though questioning, project and practical demonstrations.
